18505 (2026). Vanushi Walters to the Minister of Foreign Affairs: What specific steps has the Minister taken to establish the safety and wellbeing of the New Zealand citizens detained by the Israeli Defense Force following the interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla in international waters near Crete on or around 1 May 2026, and what actions have been taken to ensure those who sustained injuries, including the reported concussion and possible broken rib suffered by New Zealand citizens, have received appropriate medical care?
Rt Hon Winston Peters: New Zealand's embassies in Ankara and Rome (accredited to Greece) engaged directly with Israeli, Turkish and Greek authorities to establish the safety and wellbeing of New Zealanders who were detained. Regular medical care updates were provided to nominated family contacts as soon as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade received them, including throughout the night of 1 May, and in the early hours of 2 May 2026.
