18480 (2026). Hon Ginny Andersen to the Minister of Police
Written Question
Published date: 22 May 2026
18480 (2026). Hon Ginny Andersen to the Minister of Police: Why were there fewer constabulary staff working in Operations – Tamaki Makaurau Groupings in March 2026 compared to October 2023?
Hon Mark Mitchell: I refer the Member to the attached table, which shows the active constabulary full-time equivalent (FTE) staff numbers for the group known in 2023 as Tāmaki Makaurau Deployment group between 31 October 2023 and 31 March 2026.
While the group was renamed in early 2025, it continues to comprise the same shared service functions supporting the three Tāmaki Makaurau districts, including Workforce Management, Road Policing, Dog Handlers, Marine/Launch crew, Impairment Prevention Teams, Field Intelligence and Air Support.
The lower constabulary FTE number recorded in March 2026 compared with October 2023 largely reflects organisational changes over time, including the transfer of some roles, to the Tāmaki Makaurau Partnership Group to align with the organisational restructure. In addition, Ethnic Services roles were moved out of the group during 2025, reducing the overall FTE count attributed to the grouping.
This is also my response to Written Parliamentary Question 18482 (2026).
