18295 (2025). Hon Kieran McAnulty to the Associate Minister of Housing: How many people, if any, have been issued hardship grants to cover the cost of staying in campervans or caravans since 27 November 2023, broken down by region?
Hon Tama Potaka: I am advised by the Ministry of Social Development that Types of accommodation offered by a supplier may cross multiple categories, for example: a motel may also provide campground or holiday park facilities but be recorded solely as a motel. The types of accommodation funded are categorised under: Motel/Hotel, Hostel, Holiday Park/Campground, Marae, Shelter. Information about the number of people receiving Emergency Housing Grants and staying in campervans or caravans is not centrally recorded and would be held on individual client files. Providing this information would require the Ministry to undertake a substantial data collation, processing and verification exercise that would divert a significant number of staff from their core duties. In accordance with Speaker's Ruling 210/6, I consider that the time, and hence the expense, of answering the Member's question is not in the public interest.
