18262 (2025). Hon Kieran McAnulty to the Associate Minister of Housing: Has the Minister given any directions to MSD regarding the circumstances under which emergency housing can or cannot be granted?

Hon Tama Potaka: On 22 July 2024, the Associate Minister of Housing approved and signed the Emergency Housing Grants Programme under section 101 (1) of the Social Security Act 2018. The programme came into force on 26 August 2024 and set out the eligibility criteria and the principles that the Ministry of Social Development must consider when deciding whether or not to make an Emergency Housing Grant. The programme also established the responsibilities framework for people in receipt of an Emergency Housing Grant and set out the consequences of not complying with those responsibilities.
