18235 (2026). Vanushi Walters to the Prime Minister: Has the Prime Minister sought or received advice from the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, the Ministry of Defence, or the New Zealand Defence Force on what military or other contributions New Zealand could or would be expected to make to a US-led coalition to reopen the Strait of Hormuz?
Rt Hon Christopher Luxon: In relation to the Strait of Hormuz, New Zealand has a longstanding record of working with likeminded partners to ensure open supply lines for trade. Any future decision for New Zealand to support multilateral efforts to ensure safe passage would include considerations of compliance with international law and would need to be considered by Cabinet.
