Tangi Utikere to the Associate Minister of Transport: What assessment has the Ministry of Transport or Maritime New Zealand made of the extent to which the closure of the Strait of Hormuz since 28 February 2026 has contributed to the 14.8 percent decline in overseas ship visits to New Zealand between Q1 2025 (623) and Q1 2026 (531)?

Hon James Meager: I am advised that neither the Ministry of Transport or Maritime NZ have undertaken an assessment of the reduction in overseas ship visits, between Q1 2025 and Q1 2026.
