18102 (2026). Tangi Utikere to the Minister of Transport: What advice, if any, has the Minister received on the relationship between fuel excise duty revenue and the Government's ability to meet its commitments to Roads of National Significance?

Hon Chris Bishop: I have received general advice on the impact the fuel shock (and reduced vehicle movements) is expected to have on National Land Transport Fund (NLTF) revenue. I have not received specific advice on implications for the Roads of National Significance. I have also received high-level advice on the impact that delaying fuel excise duty (FED) and road user charges (RUC) increases would have on the NLTF as a whole (but not the RONS specifically). This is something we will be thinking through carefully and no decisions have been made.
