18054 (2026). Georgie Dansey to the Minister for Regulation: Is it normal practice for a government ministry facing an active supply disruption to ask members of the public to generate the regulatory ideas it may act upon; and if so, can he point to previous examples of this approach being used in an emergency context?
Hon David Seymour: Public engagement is the duty of any responsible government. Had public regulatory engagement been taken more seriously over the COVID-19 response, perhaps community butchers would not have been forced to dump stock and close while supermarkets stayed open, or perhaps the supply shortage of COVID-19 testing capacity could have been addressed more rapidly.
