Vanushi Walters to the Minister of Foreign Affairs: How many New Zealand citizens or passport holders is the Government currently aware of who are being held in immigration detention in the United States, and how does this figure compare to the number held at equivalent points in the 2023–24 financial year?

Rt Hon Winston Peters: As at 7 May 2026, we are aware of two New Zealand citizens in immigration detention in the United States. In May 2024, we were aware of no New Zealand citizens in immigration detention in the United States.
