Tangi Utikere to the Minister of Transport: Has the Government estimated the cost, if any, to local authorities of any required pavement strengthening or rehabilitation on roads classified below Arterial level to accommodate the proposed higher weight limits; if so, what is that estimate for each region?

Hon Chris Bishop: The Government is considering options and final decisions have not yet been made. To inform these decisions, officials have carried out a regulatory impact assessment, which includes a high-level estimate of the cost of additional maintenance and renewals if heavier weight limits were to be allowed.
