17884 (2026). Mike Davidson to the Minister for ACC: Since April 2025, what is the total amount of cancer related claims submitted to ACC by New Zealand firefighters and what amount of those claims have been accepted?

Hon Scott Simpson: I am advised that since 1 April 2025, 10 cancer-related claims from firefighters have been received. Of these, six had at least one accepted cancer diagnosis, one was declined, and three are yet to be decided. Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) is directly associated with eight of the ten claims, four of which have been accepted for cover. The remining two claims are not directly linked to FENZ, but claim forms indicate the person is, or was, a firefighter by occupation or accident description. FENZ, as an Accredited Employer, manages most work-related injury claims for its employees and provides ACC with monthly claims data. The figures above are sourced from both ACC and FENZ data.
