17439 (2025). Glen Bennett to the Minister for Tourism and Hospitality: Does she agree with Christopher Luxon’s statement he is "absolutely not" concerned about international headlines about the Treaty Principles Bill, about opening back up mining, and concerns about environmentalism affecting tourism; if so, why?
Hon Louise Upston: Overseas visitor arrivals to New Zealand totalled 3.3 million in the year ending December 2024. This was up 357,000 (12 per cent) from the year ending December 2023, according to data released by Stats NZ. Further to this, the Tourism Satellite Account shows a total tourism expenditure in New Zealand of $44.4 billion for the year ending March 2024, an increase of $5.6 billion or 14.6 per cent compared to the year ending March 2023. Overseas visitor expenditure increased by $6.3 billion (59.9 per cent) to $16.9 billion and international expenditure grew almost 60 per cent in the year ending March 2024. Tourism is flourishing under this government.
