17436 (2025). Glen Bennett to the Minister for Tourism and Hospitality: Does she agree with Christopher Luxon that environmental criticisms will not deter international visitors; if so, on what evidence, if any, is this belief based?

Hon Louise Upston: Yes. This is based on the fact that overseas visitor arrivals continue to recover towards pre-Covid levels. Overseas visitor arrivals to New Zealand totalled 3.3 million in the year ending December 2024. This was up 357,000 (12 per cent) from the year ending December 2023, according to data released by Stats NZ.
