17355 (2026). Chlöe Swarbrick to the Minister of Transport: Has he received any specific advice on supporting the transport needs of rural people through the fuel crisis who reside on Waiheke Island, Great Barrier Island, or the Chatham Islands?
Hon Chris Bishop: No, I have not.
The Government has been clear that we cannot afford to alleviate all the pressure for everyone. The cost of doing that would make the economic impacts of the conflict far worse and longer lasting.
However, we are delivering timely, temporary and targeted support with an extra $50 targeted to 143,000 low and middle incomes workers with kids who are hit hardest by higher fuel prices, and a 30% increase to mileage rates for health and community support workers.
