Dr Tracey McLellan to the Minister of Corrections: What processes are in place to enable staff at Rimutaka Prison, Auckland Prison, and Christchurch Men’s Prison to raise concerns confidentially, if any, and how many concerns, if any, have been raised through those processes at each site since 1 January 2024?

Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that Corrections has a range of confidential ways for staff to raise concerns, including by staff at Rimutaka Prison, Auckland Prison, and Christchurch Men’s Prison. These include: • contacting their manager or senior leader • engaging with their union representative • speaking to a Manager People Services or Senior People Advisor • emailing the Chief Executive (there is a specific email for this process) • contacting the Safey and Wellbeing team • emailing or calling the Integrity team • calling Crimestoppers This information is available to all staff via the Human Resources Support page on Corrections’ staff intranet. Please note that not all confidential conversations or notifications lead to an official complaint or employment process, therefore I am unable to provide specific numbers of concerns raised.
