17322 (2025). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: How much money did the Health Payment Integrity Team recover for the health system in the 2022/23, 2023/24 financial years, and the 2024/25 financial year so far?

Hon Simeon Brown: I am advised that the Health Payment Integrity Team has identified the following recoveries, excluding averted losses: $11,963,868 in 2022-2023, $6,710,833 in 2023-2024, and $13,620,818 so far in 2024-2025 (covering the first nine months). As I said in Written Parliamentary Question 17321 (2025), I am pleased to inform the Member that integrating the audit team will increase the number of auditors from HPIT’s 11.8 to a total of 26 auditors in the new integrated team. I have made my expectations clear to Health New Zealand that the agency must maintain a strong focus on frontline services to ensure all New Zealanders can access timely, quality healthcare, and its change processes should prioritise reducing bureaucracy.
