17320 (2026). Tangi Utikere to the Minister of Education: What is the direction, scope, and timeframe for the review of school transport assistance policy, and when does the Minister expect the Ministry of Education’s review of school transport assistance policy to be completed?

Hon Erica Stanford: The scope of the policy review is broad. It will examine policy settings around school transport including: • the purpose of school transport • the relationship between school transport, attendance, and education outcomes • who school transport supports and on what basis • system-level responsibility for school transport • how school transport is funded • the role of school transport in the network. The timeframe of the policy review of school transport is approximately 12 months from April 2026.
