17320 (2025). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What assessment, if any, has Health NZ undertaken of the risks of creating a private monopoly in health certification services?

Hon Simeon Brown: I am advised the Ministry of Health has determined that Health New Zealand had a conflict of interest and should no longer certify public hospitals it owns to deliver access to timely, quality healthcare for all New Zealanders. It is this determination that drove a decision to stop conducting certification audits.
