17309 (2025). Hon Dr Duncan Webb to the Minister of Justice: What is the policy (if any) of the Ministry relating to the use of artificial intelligence tools?

Hon Paul Goldsmith: I am advised the Ministry of Justice (the Ministry) refers to the guidance provided by the Government Chief Digital Officer (GCDO) and the public service guidelines published on digital.govt.nz. The Ministry has established guidelines for officials on the use of artificial intelligence, which are to be used alongside other relevant Ministry policies. The Ministry has numerous policies which relate to the storage, use, and access of Ministry information, which covers the use of generative artificial intelligence and large language models.
