17267 (2025). Scott Willis to the Minister of Science, Innovation and Technology: What analysis, if any, has been conducted to determine the economic and scientific benefits of merging Crown Research Institutes into Public Research Organisations?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: The underlying advice and analysis for merging the Crown Research Institutes into Public research Organisations was first outlined in the first Science System Advisory Group (SSAG) report, which was based on extensive consultation with the SI&T sector. The Government has also taken into account the financial status of CRIs, current public good work done by CRIs, legal and procedural requirements, previous reports on CRI leadership and governance, existing and future science capability requirements, and appropriate stewardship requirements.
