17260 (2025). Dr Tracey McLellan to the Minister of Corrections: How much, if anything, has been spent since 27 November 2023 on providing children's toys in visiting and waiting spaces, by prison and quarter?
Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that while Corrections holds a third-party contract where a term in the contract allows spend of up to $1,500 per annum on toys and resources for children, no specific budget is provided for the purchase of children’s toys in prisons. Some toys and books for children are also donated to prisons.
I am further advised that any purchases of toys for prison sites are not substantial and are purchased on an ad hoc basis, and are not easily able to be differentiated from items purchased for prisoners such as board games. Providing this information would amount to substantial collation and manual analysis, which I am not prepared to ask of my officials for the purposes of this response.
