17229 (2025). Lemauga Lydia Sosene to the Minister of Internal Affairs: What does the Minister mean in relation to community funding from gambling when she says "It creates a perverse incentive"?

Hon Brooke van Velden: When community organisations are reliant on funding from gambling there can be an incentive to increase gambling in order to increase the funding to these organisations. In my view this is a perverse incentive, as increasing rates of gambling is not desirable and may increase the rate of gambling harm.
