17214 (2026). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What is the number of Public Hospital beds in New Zealand per quarter for the past six financial years?

Hon Simeon Brown: I am advised that Health New Zealand does not routinely report on the number of public hospital beds as a single standardised quarterly series. However, the Ministry of Health has a public list of all certified public hospital providers in New Zealand, including the number of beds, available at www.health.govt.nz/regulation-legislation/certification-of-health-care-services/certified-providers/public-hospitals. This list records that as at 28 April 2026, there are 11,198 public hospital beds across 92 public hospital facilities.
