17193 (2025). Tamatha Paul to the Minister for Children: What was the average FTE count for Oranga Tamariki Intake Social Workers in the 2024 financial year?

Hon Karen Chhour: I am advised by Oranga Tamariki that they employ Social Workers (child protection), Youth Justice Social Workers and Caregiver Recruitment and Support Social Workers, but that there is no position of “Intake Social Worker”. I am further advised that Oranga Tamariki sites structure teams depending on what works best for the local community. Some sites have teams working predominantly on new Reports of Concern, which can be described as intake work, or as an intake and assessment team. However, this represents how the teams are organised rather than formal roles.
