17167 (2026). Chlöe Swarbrick to the Minister of Foreign Affairs: What support, if any, is the Government providing to Samoa to support Samoa through the current fuel crisis?
Rt Hon Winston Peters: The Government is closely monitoring the impacts of the fuel crisis on the Pacific region, including Samoa. We are advocating with Southeast Asian countries, particularly Singapore, for continuity of supply to the region and no export restricitions. We are working with other partners including Australia, the US, and Japan to understand how we can best support the region. We are also in direct discussions with Pacific fuel suppliers to understand the constraints they face. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, with MBIE and MOT has hosted joint engagement with Samoa, Tonga, and Tuvalu to exchange information and approaches to planning and responding to the fuel crisis.
