17155 (2026). Chlöe Swarbrick to the Minister of Foreign Affairs: What meetings, if any, has the Minister or his office made with representatives of the United States since March 2026, by subject and date?
Rt Hon Winston Peters: In my Capacity as Minister of Foreign Affairs, I met with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau in Washington on 7 April 2026. We discussed US/New Zealand bilateral relations, including defence and security, and trade and economic matters. We also discussed the conflict in the Middle East, including its significant negative economic impacts on New Zealand and our Pacific neighbours, and New Zealand's support for dialogue and de-escalation. Discussions further covered the Pacific Islands region including the upcoming Pacific Islands Forum and priority matters such as energy supply chain issues and transnational organised crime, as well as the shared strategic interest of New Zealand and the United States in the Indo-Pacific region, as two Pacific democracies. In my meeting with Deputy Secretary of State Landau, discussions focussed on New Zealand-US cooperation in the Indo-Pacific.
