17131 (2026). Hon Ginny Andersen to the Minister of Education: Is it the Government’s intention to ensure Te Marautanga o Aotearoa remains not just a simple translation of an English curriculum but one that is designed from a Maori perspective and that can sit alongside the New Zealand curriculum, if so, how will this be achieved?
Hon Erica Stanford: I am advised that while the two sets of curriculum documents are aligned where necessary, there are also important differences. These reflect the distinct role of Te Marautanga o Aotearoa and the specific needs of bilingual and immersion settings. As a result, although some shared content is shared, the documents are not direct translations of each other.
