17107 (2025). Lemauga Lydia Sosene to the Minister of Internal Affairs: How does the Minister aim to prevent gambling harm?

Hon Brooke van Velden: The Department of Internal Affairs prevents gambling harm through enforcing existing harm minimisation requirements and taking action against non-compliance by gambling operators where appropriate. By regulating the online casino market I aim to reduce gambling harm by channelling people who choose to gamble towards a limited number of gambling companies that will have to meet strict entry criteria and meet standards for harm minimisation, including age verification. The detailed regulations that gambling operators will need to comply with are currently being developed.
