Hon Rachel Brooking to the Minister responsible for RMA Reform: What mechanisms, including reporting requirements or performance targets, if any, will be put in place to ensure each part of the proposed Ministry for Cities, Environment, Regions and Transport does better for the environment?

Hon Chris Bishop: The new Ministry for Cities, Environment, Regions and Transport will be required to comply with the standard reporting requirements for all departments, including the need to set out key performance metrics in the Budget 2026 Estimates of Appropriations and to produce a statement of Strategic Intentions. Other statutory reporting on the state of the environment (such as the recently released Our Freshwater 2026) will also continue under the new Ministry.
