17065 (2026). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister for Sport and Recreation: How much, if any, did the Minister’s departments, agencies, crown entities and any other bodies that the Minister is responsible for, if any, spend on the Carbon Neutral Government Programme in the 2023/24 financial year?
Hon Mark Mitchell: There are no direct programme participation fees for the Carbon Neutral Government Programme; however, agencies incur costs to meet the Programme’s reporting and assurance requirements. The only direct expense for Sport New Zealand Group, relating to the Carbon Neutral Government Programme, is Toitū membership and audit to support carbon emissions measurement and verification requirements associated with the Programme. Both Sport NZ and High Performance Sport NZ (HPSNZ) pay separately for these services
HPSNZ’s Toitū annual membership fee is $6,850 and Sport NZ’s annual membership fee is $8,925. Audit spend is variable. For the 2023/24 financial year the Sport NZ audit cost was $4,325, and the HPSNZ audit cost was $3,412. The audit was conducted and billed in the 2024/25 financial year.
I am advised the Sport Integrity Commission is not a participating agency.
