17043 (2026). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Internal Affairs: How much, if any, did the Minister’s departments, agencies, crown entities and any other bodies that the Minister is responsible for, if any, spend on the Carbon Neutral Government Programme in the 2023/24 financial year?

Hon Brooke van Velden: Department of Internal Affairs: I am advised by the Department of Internal Affairs that $219,717 was spent on the Carbon Neutral Government Programme in the 2023/24 financial year. Fire and Emergency New Zealand: I am advised that Fire and Emergency New Zealand spent $14,065 excluding GST on the Carbon Neutral Government Programme in the 2023/24 financial year. Lotto NZ: As an autonomous Crown entity, Lotto New Zealand is not required to report under the Carbon Neutral Government Programme. Accordingly, Lotto New Zealand did not incur any costs associated with the programme in the 2023/24 financial year. Lotto New Zealand is, however, voluntarily certified as Toitū net carbonzero. Information on its emissions management and reduction approach is published in Lotto New Zealand’s Integrated Report. Film and Classification Office: As a small, independent Crown entity, the Classification Office is not covered by the Carbon Neutral Government Programme and is therefore not required to measure, report on, or offset its greenhouse gas emissions. Notwithstanding this, the Classification Office has a range of measures in place to reduce its environmental impact. The Office does not own or lease vehicles, has minimal expenditure on air travel, and uses public transport for short, local trips. Where practicable, the Office sources carbon neutral supplies, recycles waste, and supports a staff initiated food waste reduction programme.
