16855 (2026). Debbie Ngarewa-Packer to the Associate Minister for Energy: Further to WPQ 11813 (2026), what advice, if any, did the Minister receive on the Petroleum Demand Restraint Act 1981, and what decisions did he make in response?

Hon Shane Jones: I received advice on the availability and operation of the Petroleum Demand Restraint Act 1981 as part of broader advice on fuel mitigation options and escalation pathways. This advice considered the Act as a last‑resort measure that could be used if fuel supply conditions were to deteriorate significantly. I did not make any decisions to activate the Petroleum Demand Restraint Act 1981.
