Hon Mark Mitchell: In February 2026, I received a copy of Corrections Long-Term Insights Briefing which included broad information around prison capacity and the impacts it may have on Corrections resources. This briefing is publicly available here: https://www.corrections.govt.nz/__data/assets/pdf_file/0005/66776/Long-Term_Insights_Briefing_2026.pdf I received two other briefings in February 2026 which reference the increased prison population. However, the title and contents of these briefings are withheld in accordance with Speakers’ Ruling 199/6.
