16270 (2026). Debbie Ngarewa-Packer to the Associate Minister for Energy: What contingency plans, if any, are in place for the supply of fuel in New Zealand if fuel shipping routes are further disrupted?

Hon Shane Jones: The Government is monitoring fuel stocks and shipping routes through the fuel importers. The government is engaging with fuel importers through the Fuel Sector Coordinating Entity on a daily basis, monitoring of fuel stocks and shipping movements, use of minimum stockholding obligations, and escalation arrangements to prioritise essential services if required. New Zealand also participates in International Energy Agency collective action mechanisms to support global fuel market stability during severe disruptions.
