16102 (2025). Debbie Ngarewa-Packer to the Minister responsible for RMA Reform: Does the Minister believe that the new RMA system meets the Crowns obligations to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, if yes, how?

Hon Chris Bishop: The new Resource Management Act (RMA) system is still in the process of being designed, however, Cabinet has been clear that the new system will uphold the Crown's obligations, including Treaty settlement obligations. This reform is an opportunity to improve the Treaty provisions in the current system and address the failure of the RMA to provide certainty and consistency on the role for Māori interests in processes.
