Debbie Ngarewa-Packer to the Minister responsible for RMA Reform: Does the Minister recognise the advice from Ministry for the Environment that ‘work is needed to ensure the approach taken to an overreaching Treaty of Waitangi clause appropriately considers the objectives of resource management reform and the wider review of Treaty clauses in legislation’, if yes, how will the Minister roll out this work plan?

Hon Chris Bishop: Yes, part of the policy work officials are undertaking is to develop specific provisions for the new legislation that will recognise the Treaty of Waitangi, while also providing greater clarity and certainty for all users of the system, including Māori. This will occur alongside wider policy work to develop the details of the new system.
