16070 (2025). Debbie Ngarewa-Packer to the Minister responsible for RMA Reform: Has the Minister consulted with any iwi or hapū on the proposed replacement of the Natural and Built Environments Act and Spatial Planning Act; if so, which iwi or hapū were consulted and on what dates; if not, why not?
Hon Chris Bishop: I have not met with any iwi, hapū or Māori groups to specifically discuss the replacement of the RMA. However, this was discussed at a high level during a hui with Ngāi Tahu which I attended on 5/6 February 2025. I also met separately with Pou Taiao and Te Tai Kaha on 27 February 2025 where resource management reform was also discussed. I am advised the Ministry for the Environment undertook some targeted engagement with Post-Settlement Governance Entities (PSGEs) alongside the Expert Advisory Group process in 2024, and will continue to engage with PSGEs and other Māori groups during this reform.
