16046 (2025). Dr Lawrence Xu-Nan to the Minister of Education: Why was the New Zealand Association of Teachers of English only given a nine-day turnaround time for feedback on the draft English Year 7-13 curriculum?

Hon Erica Stanford: The Ministry of Education (the Ministry) is working to tight timeframes to develop a knowledge-rich curriculum that delivers consistency, supports teachers with what to teach and when, and helps to lift achievement. Timeframes provided for external quality assurance reviews must align within the overall curriculum development approach. The Ministry is currently consulting on the draft English learning area for Years 7-13. The New Zealand Association of Teachers of English are encouraged to provide further feedback on the draft content through this process. Consultation closes on 13 June 2025.
