16042 (2025). Dr Lawrence Xu-Nan to the Minister of Education: How, if at all, were the New Zealand Association of Teachers of English (NZATE) allowed to consult and give feedback on the draft English Year 7-13 curriculum, listed by method for NZATE consultation and/or feedback, and timeframes for NZATE consultation and/or feedback?
Hon Erica Stanford: I am advised that, between September and December 2024, the Ministry of Education (the Ministry) engaged regularly with the New Zealand Association of Teachers of English (NZATE) on the draft English learning area for Years 7-13 as part of the quality assurance review process. Draft curriculum materials were distributed to NZATE representatives for review, and online meetings were held to capture feedback and guide further updates to the material. At the beginning of 2025, the Ministry engaged further with NZATE in preparing to finalise the draft learning area for consultation. Consultation on the draft English learning area for Years 7-13 opened on 31 March and closes on 13 June 2025. NZATE are able to provide further feedback on the draft learning area through this process.
