16039 (2025). Dr Tracey McLellan to the Minister of Corrections: What health and safety responsibilities, if any, are provided by each of the 49 Corrections’ roles that are proposed to be disestablished?

Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that there is a proposal for change currently being consulted on in Corrections’ People and Capability group with the overarching purpose of the proposal to ensure that services delivered to Corrections’ staff are more strongly aligned to the operational needs of their workforce and the strategic intent of Corrections. The proposal seeks to disestablish 79 positions, 42 of which are currently filled. I am further advised that it is proposed to reduce the number of positions for particular roles, which would result in a net decrease of a further five positions. I am further advised that the proposal seeks to create 35 new roles within People and Capability, resulting in a net reduction of 49 positions in the People and Capability team. Consultation on the proposed changes to roles within People and Capability closed on 16 April 2025. I am further advised that the net decrease in currently-filled roles is six in the proposal. I am further advised that the proposed changes to the number of staff do not impact the number of frontline staff employed at Corrections. These proposed changes are focused on non-offender facing roles only. I am further advised that, as part of the People & Capability change proposal, it is proposed to disestablish a vacant Safety and Wellbeing Capability Adviser and a vacant Safety and Wellbeing trainer. I am further advised that the Director Integrated Systems position in the Organisational Resilience & Safety business group, which manages the Health & Safety Corporate Systems team, is proposed to be disestablished due to the change of scope to include Practice Support. A newly created Director Integrated Systems position is proposed to be established which would manage the Health & Safety Corporate Systems team if the current proposal is implemented.
