15305 (2025). Ricardo Menéndez March to the Associate Minister of Housing: What guidance, if any, has been given to Ministry of Social Development staff in assessing requests for emergency housing grants, following the changes to gateway settings?

Hon Tama Potaka: I am advised that the Ministry of Social Development (the Ministry) provided multiple training sessions to staff on the changes, with training material made available to staff on the Ministry’s Intranet. The Ministry updated guidance documents for staff, such as MAP, the Ministry’s operational policy guidelines. Updates to MAP are available to view in following link, under the heading 26 August 2024: www.workandincome.govt.nz/map/changes/map-changes-in-2024.html. Since the changes came into effect, the Ministry has monitor staff emergency housing practice. Where issues at a regional and national level have been identified guidance is updated as needed to ensure clients were receiving the same assessment across the country.
