15202 (2026). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Internal Affairs: What was the composition - in percentage terms - of sources of energy consumed to power or heat buildings, if any, in the Minister’s department’s, agencies, crown entities or any other bodies that the Minister is responsible for, if any, in 2025?
Hon Brooke van Velden: Department of Internal Affairs:
I am advised by the Department of Internal Affairs that the attached table outlines the composition of sources of energy consumed to power or heat buildings in percentage terms by financial year.
Classification Office:
I am advised by the Classification Office that their heating/power is 100% electricity.
Lotto NZ:
I am advised that the building Lotto NZ is headquartered in is powered by 100% electricity but has a diesel-powered generator on standby for emergency use. As part of annual testing procedures, the generator is run for 60 minutes once a year and also for 15 minutes each month. In the period specified between 2020-2025, there was one power outage that required the generator to run for 30 minutes.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand:
I am advised that Fire and Emergency only collate energy spend by financial year. I am advised that the energy use by Fire and Emergency to power or heat buildings is distributed by spend as outlined in the attached table.
