15172 (2025). Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Associate Minister of Education: How many complaints, if any, were there regarding the lunches provided by the School Lunches Collective during the week of March 17th 2025 directed towards the Ministry of Education?
Hon David Seymour: I am advised by the Ministry of Education (the Ministry) that data provided by the School Lunch Collective (the Collective) for the week of 17 March 2025 shows there was 34,644 meals (or 6.04% of total meals) uneaten and returned to the Collective production kitchens across the country. Any partly eaten meals would be considered as waste. The Ministry receives waste information in line with the service level reporting in the service agreements with the Collective. Internal schools and iwi/hapū meal providers manage their own waste, and this is reported at the end of each term. This information is not available currently.
