15133 (2025). Hon Dr Duncan Webb to the Associate Minister of Finance: Is the Natural Hazards Commission undertaking any work to understand the size of the risk posed by flooding or by coastal inundation; if so what is that work?

Hon David Seymour: I am advised NHC is not currently undertaking any work to understand the size of the risk posed by flooding or by coastal inundation. It seeks advice from NIWA on climate trends expected over the next five years when developing actuarial advice on the liabilities of the Scheme. NHC also funds research projects related to flooding and coastal inundation through its longstanding research programme.
