15123 (2025). Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Associate Minister of Education: What are schools required to report, if anything, regarding wasted meals?

Hon David Seymour: I am advised by the Ministry of Education (the Ministry) that schools are required to work to their waste management plan, that must be developed and maintained detailing the approach to waste management and minimisation target. Included in this plan is to provide evidence of general recycling, reused of packaging and composting of food scraps. The focus is on minimisation of the amount of food scraps, meal surplus and packaging waste generated. The Ministry will work with schools to meet their waste management plan.
