15112 (2025). Tamatha Paul to the Minister of Corrections: How many people, if any, were incarcerated for any period in 2024, broken down by most serious offence type?
Hon Mark Mitchell: Corrections manages people on sentences and orders at the direction of the Courts and the New Zealand Parole Board. Corrections does not determine whether a person is sentenced to prison or the length of their sentence. I refer the member to the attached table which provides the number of unique people started a prison sentence and/or a remand period between 01 January 2024 and 31 December 2024, broken down by index offence type.
