Hon Mark Mitchell: Corrections manages people on sentences and orders at the direction of the Courts and the New Zealand Parole Board. Corrections does not determine whether a person is sentenced to prison or the length of their sentence. I refer the member to the attached table that provides the number of unique people with an imposed prison sentence length of one year or less and had their first release from prison between 01 January 2023 and 31 December 2023 ,broken down by their index offence type.
