15031 (2025). Ingrid Leary to the Minister for Mental Health: Is there a national lack of services for people at risk for psychosis; and, if so, what, if anything, will he do to address this?

Hon Matt Doocey: I am informed Health New Zealand has acknowledged the findings of a recent study by Dr Rebecca Grattan on An Overview of Early Psychosis Care in New Zealand, including the conclusion that services in New Zealand were "relatively comparable" to international services. Currently there are early intervention services in: • Northland • Waitemata (North - Takapuna) • Waitemata (West - Henderson) • Auckland • Counties Manukau • Waikato • Taranaki • MidCentral • Nelson-Marlborough • Capital and Coast, Hutt Valley and Wairarapa • Canterbury • Southern The Government as part of its Mental Health targets is committed to faster access to specialist mental health and addiction services, while growing the workforce and ensuring investment in prevention and early intervention. Health New Zealand have said that there are areas for improvement in eligibility, cultural services and wider availability of therapy and family involvement in relation to services for early psychosis intervention.
