14072 (2026). Debbie Ngarewa-Packer to the Minister of Conservation: What immediate steps, if any, will be taken to restore the ecological integrity of Pukepuke Lagoon?

Hon Tama Potaka: I am advised by the Department of Conservation that the immediate focus is working with Iwi, local and regional authorities to improve understanding of the current ecological condition of Pukepuke Lagoon, including the functioning of hydrological systems at the lagoon and across the wider catchment. This will inform consideration of any future management or restoration actions. Approximately 2000 tuna have been translocated to Lake Koputara. Recent rain events have rewetted the wetlands, which is the first step to restoring ecological integrity.
