14061 (2026). Debbie Ngarewa-Packer to the Associate Minister for Energy: What is the Government's long-term plan to reduce reliance on imported fossil fuels?
Hon Shane Jones: The 2025 Fuel Security Plan sets out the Government's medium to long term strategy for improving New Zealand's fuel resilience. The Fuel Security Study identified accelerating the energy transition, and thereby reducing import dependency, as the most cost-effective ways to improve fuel security. The Government is focused on supporting electrification of transport and industry where feasible, enabling renewable electricity generation and low-emissions fuels and technologies.
